Executive: We need to do a simulation test for a movable air conditioner. Have we done anything like this before? How quickly can you get it done?

Project Manager (visibly sweating): I think John did one a few years ago for something like that—but he left the company. I‘ll have to look through his hard drive and try to find something. Of course we‘ll have to build some personas, scenarios, usage models... develop some screeners, set up a research protocol. This could take a while. I‘ll have to talk to the team and see if anyone remembers how we set up that research project we did last year.

Executive: Just let me know how long it will take.

Project Manger: I‘ll get back to you on it—but probably a month to set everything up and another month for the research and testing...

Executive (looking forlorn and vengeful): Mmm—maybe we should just hire a consultant...

Currently UX projects create an unmanaged mass of project files that is nearly useless as a basis of ongoing work. Duplication of effort is assured.
